Women's health through every stage of life
Prasuti Evum Stri Rog — Ayurvedic Obstetrics & Gynaecology — addresses the complete spectrum of women's health from adolescence through menopause: menstrual health, fertility, pregnancy care, childbirth, post-natal recovery, and gynaecological disorders. At Ishan, the department operates with both an OPD for consultations and medical management, and a Gynae Operation Theatre for surgical interventions — LSCS (C-section), laparoscopic procedures, and other obstetric surgeries — making it one of the few Ayurvedic hospitals offering this integrated capability. Our approach combines classical Ayurvedic gynaecological wisdom — Uttarbasti, Yoni Prakshalan, Rasayana for fertility — with modern diagnostic tools (ultrasound, hormonal assays) to deliver comprehensive, evidence-informed women's care. "A woman who is healthy in her Artava (menstrual health) and Stri Dhatu (reproductive tissue) carries the potential of life itself. Her care is the foundation of healthy families and healthy generations." — Charaka Samhita, Shareera Sthana.

How we treat women's conditions — explained simply
Women's health is often treated as a series of isolated problems — irregular periods treated with the pill, PCOD with metformin, fertility with IVF. What is rarely addressed is the systemic imbalance that causes all of these simultaneously. Ayurveda treats the woman, not the list of diagnoses. At Ishan, the Prasuti department uses a whole-body framework — the menstrual cycle as a health indicator, the reproductive system as a reflection of overall Dhatu strength, and hormonal balance as the outcome of correct Agni, diet, and lifestyle. Fix the foundation; the symptoms resolve themselves. "The most consistent thing we observe is that women who come for infertility treatment end up also resolving their PCOD, their skin, their energy, and their mood — because Ayurveda treats the root that connects all of these. No patient is just one diagnosis."
We see the woman — not just the diagnosis
A woman with PCOD is not just a hormonal imbalance. She is also managing stress, diet, sleep patterns, and often years of being told to 'just lose weight.' Our first consultation is a thorough conversation — menstrual history, obstetric history, lifestyle, emotional patterns, and investigation reports reviewed together. Two women with the same PCOD diagnosis will have different Dosha profiles — one Vata-predominant (irregular cycles, anxiety), the other Kapha-predominant (weight gain, dull aching). The treatments are entirely different.
Restoring Artava — the menstrual cycle as a health signal
In Ayurveda, the menstrual cycle is the most sensitive indicator of a woman's overall health. Irregular, painful, or absent periods are not just reproductive problems — they are whole-body signals. We address the cycle by correcting the Dosha, Dhatu, and Agni imbalances that are causing it. Women who restore normal menstrual cycles through Ayurvedic treatment often report improvements in skin, energy, weight, and mood — because the same corrections benefit all systems.
Fertility care — preparing the body for conception
Ayurvedic fertility treatment focuses on preparing the body — optimising endometrial quality, regulating ovulation, reducing chronic inflammation that blocks implantation, and addressing the systemic conditions (thyroid, insulin resistance, stress) that suppress fertility. Uttarbasti is our most targeted fertility procedure. Couples who have spent years on IUI/IVF cycles often see natural conception after 3–6 months of Ayurvedic fertility preparation — because the body itself is finally ready.
Surgery when needed — and Ayurveda always after
When gynaecological surgery is indicated — C-section, cystectomy, fibroid removal — our Gynae OT is fully equipped. And Ayurvedic post-operative care begins immediately after discharge: wound healing, dietary restoration, hormonal rebalancing, and strengthening protocols to speed recovery and prevent recurrence. Post-surgical Ayurvedic Rasayana significantly reduces C-section recovery time and rebuilds uterine health for future pregnancies.
How we treat women — all working together
Prasuti at Ishan combines targeted classical procedures with modern diagnostics, surgical capability, and dedicated antenatal and post-natal care.
Uttarbasti
A specialised intra-uterine instillation of medicated oil or decoction — the most targeted Ayurvedic fertility and gynaecological procedure. Used for thin endometrium, blocked tubes, chronic leucorrhoea, and post-inflammatory pelvic conditions. Performed in the OPD under sterile conditions. Uttarbasti has one of the strongest clinical evidence bases of all Ayurvedic gynaecological procedures — multiple published studies show improvement in endometrial thickness and fertility outcomes.

Hormonal herbal formulations
Classical Ayurvedic formulations — Rajapravartini Vati, Pushyanug Churna, Shatavari Kalpa, Ashokarishtam — are evidence-backed for menstrual regulation, PCOD management, and menopausal symptom relief. No synthetic hormones, no dependency. Shatavari has over 50 published studies demonstrating oestrogenic and galactogogue properties. Ashoka bark has proven anti-dysfunctional uterine bleeding activity.

Gynae OT
Fully equipped gynaecological OT for LSCS, laparoscopic surgery, ovarian cystectomy, myomectomy, hysteroscopy, and D&C. Modern anaesthesia, experienced surgical team, and Ayurvedic post-operative care protocols that reduce recovery time and protect uterine health. Post-operative Ayurvedic wound care and Rasayana significantly reduces recovery time, minimises adhesion formation, and supports uterine healing for future pregnancies.

- Laparoscopic
- Hysteroscopy
Diet & lifestyle for hormonal health
Specific dietary protocols for PCOD, endometriosis, fertility, and menopause — because what a woman eats directly influences her hormonal balance. Reducing Ama (pro-inflammatory foods), supporting Agni, and specific micronutrient guidance are central to all gynaecological treatment plans. Women with PCOD who follow the Ayurvedic dietary protocol typically see measurable improvement in cycle regularity within 6–8 weeks.

Diagnostics — hormonal & imaging
Ultrasound referral, hormonal assays (FSH, LH, AMH, thyroid, insulin resistance), and routine blood work are used alongside Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis to build a complete clinical picture. We combine both diagnostic systems — classical and modern. Modern diagnostics let us measure outcomes objectively — improving AMH, normalising LH:FSH ratios in PCOD, restoring ovulation. Science and classical wisdom together.

Garbhasanskar & antenatal care
Ayurvedic antenatal care (Garbhini Paricharya) provides month-by-month dietary, lifestyle, and supplement guidance for a healthy pregnancy. Garbhasanskar — prenatal enrichment through music, positive thought, and stimulation — supports foetal brain development. Women who follow Garbhini Paricharya throughout pregnancy consistently report smoother deliveries, healthier birth weight babies, and easier post-natal recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — PCOD is one of the conditions that responds most consistently to Ayurvedic treatment. By correcting the underlying Kapha/Vata imbalance, reducing Ama (metabolic toxins linked to insulin resistance), and regulating the Artava (menstrual tissue), most women with PCOD see significant improvement in cycle regularity, hormonal parameters, and associated symptoms within 3–6 months.
Yes — particularly for cases where conventional investigation shows no clear mechanical obstruction. Ayurvedic fertility treatment optimises endometrial quality, regulates ovulation, reduces inflammatory causes of implantation failure, and addresses systemic conditions (thyroid, insulin resistance, stress) that suppress fertility. Uttarbasti is our most targeted fertility procedure.
Uttarbasti is a sterile intra-uterine instillation of medicated oil or decoction performed in the OPD. It is done with a fine catheter, takes 10–15 minutes, and is performed at specific points in the menstrual cycle. Mild cramping is normal and brief. It is one of the most effective classical Ayurvedic gynaecological procedures for fertility and uterine health.
Yes — our Gynae OT is equipped for LSCS (C-section) and other obstetric surgeries. Antenatal care is provided throughout pregnancy, and delivery and post-natal care are handled by our Prasuti team. Contact the department to register for antenatal care.
In most cases, yes. Hormonal contraceptives, metformin for PCOD, thyroid medicines, and other gynaecological medications are reviewed at the first consultation. We create a safe plan that integrates both systems — never abruptly stopping prescribed medicines.
Yes. Ishan Ayurvedic Hospital is CGHS empanelled and works with 40+ insurance companies. OPD, IPD, and OT procedures are covered. Contact reception at 9818180933 for pre-authorisation and cashless queries.
